About Chris Brown

Raised in Virginia on his parents’ R&B albums, Brown is the product of his upbringing in probably more ways than he would care to admit. Heavily indebted to Michael Jackson and Usher for his signature style, Brown began his rise to fame with the acclaimed release of his self-titled debut album at the young age of 16, topping the charts with his first single “Run It.” The success of his early work garnered him a role on The O.C., an opening gig with Beyonce, and studio time with established artists like T. Pain, Lil Wayne, Swizz Beatz, The Game, and Nas. Notoriety and infamy following his public assault on Rihanna eclipsed his popularity and drove the talented young performer out of the spotlight for a few years.

Now Chris Brown is back, reformed, rehabilitated and ready to blow minds on Chris Brown tour dates. His emotional reaction at the 2010 BET Awards during a performance of Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror” may have solidified his genuine regret of his past behavior. At a 2011 Good Morning America interview, Brown flipped out and damaged a window after being questioned further about the Rihanna incident. A distraught Brown was seen leaving the studio shirtless. Brown and Rihanna have since made amends and the worst seems to be behind him. In September 2014, Brown released his sixth studio album, X, which met with much critical acclaim. The most popular single off the album so far is “Loyal,” which peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100.
